Most of the time natural hair just need a little love and care. There are small steps and ways that you can start to create healthy hair.
First, you have to understand your scalp and hair personality. What I mean is, you have to know what your hair do and don't like. What makes it shed? Which hairstyles or products make your scalp flake? Watch and observe the way you treat your hair and how it reacts. The best thing to do is keep everything to a minimum because when you're using a lot of products and wearing so many different hairstyles, it's hard to understand why your hair keeps shedding, breaking off or not growing in like it use to.
Second, it's important to be conscious about the chemicals that are being applied to your hair. Less is always more because a lot times we can't control certain chemicals and the reaction that our hair has to these chemicals. But, we can control how often and which chemicals we allow to be applied. For an example, we all know at this point that Sulfate is the most horrible chemical for your scalp so now we know not to shampoo our hair with Sulfate because it will severely damage our hair and scalp.
Thirdly, remember the importance of maintenance. This is the part we overlook when we see a some hair growth. We forget to trim our ends, to sleep with a silk scarf or keep from applying too much heat throughout the week. We can think it's ok because our hair is going to grow regardless but its kind of useless if it grows in damaged. Trimmed ends will keep your hair from extreme shedding and breakage. Silk or satins scarfs will protect your hair from being dry and frizzy because the cotton bed linens will soak up the moisture in your hair. Minimizing heat on your hair will stop the uneven hair strands. Heat application alone can change the growth of your hair.
These steps are simple but valuable. This is all apart of nurturing, it takes some time and effort but the reward is great! I encourage you to go on this hair journey with an open mind & a lot of patience!
Peace & Blessings
In todays society it seems to be all about length and style. Color and a variety of hair techniques. But in most cases, I have seen women more and more conscious about the well being of their natural hair. It's the frustration and anxiety that comes with caring for your hair that make some women revert back to weave extensions, cuts and other fancy techniques.
I believe in my heart that women will become more understanding about the process of caring for their hair and more patient about growth! We have a tendency to expect growth now and today but if you think about it, we have been experiencing hair loss or certain struggles for months or even years. It's no way that our hair will recover rapidly , real results will take time and nurturing. Simple steps such as sleeping with a satin scarf to protect your hair from breakage on cotton sheets and pillow cases.
So why is healthy hair important? Because natural hair is the one thing that will never leave us. We will always have it, no matter how often we switch hairstyles. Natural Hair Stays! Unless you willing go bald but it still grows back and the goal is for it to grow back healthy. So why not care for it, your hair is apart of you like any other limb on your body. We might have to switch our mindset and keep from comparing what we have to what others have. It's time to deal with what God has given us and do good by it. It's way more frustrating to know you have hair but can't do anything with it because you haven't taken the responsibility of taking good care of it. Rather than, accept it, nurture it and keep going. Don't worry about the length or the fact that your hair is not full enough. Just trim it! You'll see fullness instantly.
Protect you hair. Nurture your hair. Feed your hair. because it's forever apart of you!
Peace & Blessings!
